NAIR 2.0.0 with Online Play


NAIR just recieved a majoy update, the game now online multiplayer! I am using GGPO/rollback for the smoothest possible experience. It'll feel just like offline.

Some important notes about this release:

  • Currently, the game is direct peer-to-peer, meaning you need to port forward. I am hoping to update again with a matchmaking server sometime in the future. Regardless, until that happens I am hoping this isn't too much of a hassle. If you want to test the online functionality without port forwarding, you can connect two devices on the same router using local IP addresses, or use 2 programs on the same machine and localhost.
  • I had to remove controller rebindings, because to get GGPO to work I had to move NAIR to Unity. Redoing the input system would have taken a lot of time, more time than implementing rollback netcode, and I really needed to get this version out so I can go back to my main project. Because of this decision, and because of the massive increase in size of 2.0, I am leaving 1.2.0 up. 1.2.0 still has controller rebindings, and I hope that for those who need it, it is helpful.
  • 2.0.0 also supports more controllers. Natively, it will work with PS4, Steam, and Switch controllers. It should also work with Gamecube controllers using a mayflash adapter. 

It's been a very long time since I updated this game; I wanted to add rollback netcode mostly just to teach myself how to do it, for fun. I am very happy with how it turned out.

I also want to write a special thank you to everyone who's played this game over the years. I love you people <3


I strongly considered making this version paid (like, $1) as it was a major effort to implement. In the end, I decided against it, as the user experience of port forwarding is simply too unpleasant of a user experience to charge for, in my opinion.
